Metals" & "FAQ".
We buy most any gold containing item that has a value higher than the costs associated with processing and recycling it to extract the gold. With
todays high gold prices this includes many items that before many companies would not accept because of cost factors. This means you probably have money just laying around going
to waste locked up in many small items containg gold that you can get cash back from now. Gather it up and send it in to get paid cash fast. This goes for many other items
now to like silver, sterling sliver, and platinum, see further below.
Also, don't worry about the quality testing, that's our job. We just posted a simple at home test for you below in case you wanted to know some gold test techniques at home. We use others of course and have special equipment, but even if you don't send us your gold for cash back, this may be good information for you to know if you want to test for new jewelry to buy, or validate what you may have for later.

Know your Gold - Simple at home test for gold.
Step 1 Use a magnifying glass to analyze the clasp of the gold chain. Look to any stamps or markings that identify what gold, if any, is in the chain.
If the chain is marked with GP (gold plated), GF (gold filled) or GL (gold layered), then the chain is not solid gold. Markings that identify the caratage, such as 14k or 24k, are
preferred, even though a sophisticated counterfeiter may also fake these marks. Some countries stamp the purity based on the parts per 10,000. For example, 9,999 means that 9,999
particles out of every 10,000 are gold.
Step 2 Hold the gold chain close to a magnet to see if there is any attraction. Real gold is not affected by a magnetic field. If the chain is attracted to the magnet it
is made of some other metal, such as gold plated steel, but is not made of gold.
Step 3 Rub a jewelry cleaning cloth firmly over a specific section of the gold chain. Use the cloth as if you are trying to clean an old piece of jewelry. If the chain has
been gold plated, this will usually enough to rub away the plating so that it looks noticeably different than the rest of the chain.
Step 4 Dip the gold chain into a cleaner solution that is formulated for sterling silver. After soaking the chain in the cleaning solution, allow it to sit for 24 hours.
If the chain is fake gold or gold plated, it will be heavily oxidized and tarnished after 24 hours. This does not happen to real gold.

Sterling Silver Flatware & Serving Sets
For those looking to sell sterling silver flatware and serving pieces, one must first determine whether or not the items they have are made of sterling silver or are silver plated, or
fake silver. Manufactures markings if genuine and deep scratch nitric acid tests are good indicators for which is which. Check the color of the silver; a lot of fake
silver is very shiny and white in color. Plated silver flatware has little to no precious metal value and is not worth refining.
Sterling silver, on the other hand, has value even if it is mangled beyond recognition or branded with monograms or initials. Because sterling silver contains
92.5% silver, it has an intrinsic value related to this precious metal content.
Silverware made in the United States is generally stamped with one of the following markings:
Sterling % of silver balance is mostly copper > .925, 925 / 1000, .800, 800 / 1000, .900, 900 / 1000
Please note that many sterling silver knives contain stainless steel blades and support rods that increase their weight while lowering their precious metal value while increasing
processing and recycling costs.
Plated silver is often depicted by an A1 or the like. The "A1" mark is sometimes found on the reverse side of silver plated flatware and refers to the quality
of the silver PLATE, i.e. "A1" is the best quality for that manufacturer, but plated not solid. Lower qualities are usually referred to as "1" or "A", "B" etc...
EPNS: Often seen on the reverse side of silver plated flatware and hollow-ware (e.g. teapots). It is an abbreviation of Electro Plated Nickel
Silver.
Another abbreviation found on hollow-ware is EPBM (Electro Plated Britannia Metal).. It is never found on flatware as the metal is too soft.
Some items are described as .925 sterling silver, with a hallmark on it .925 when really it is a NICKEL SILVER fake.
German silver is not from Germany, it is NICKEL SILVER. German silver is just a nicer name for nickel silver since some people might not know what German silver
might be. Nickel Silver is a metal alloy of copper with nickel and often but not always zinc. It is named for its silvery appearance, but contains no elemental silver. Other common
names for this alloy are German Silver, Paktong, New Silver and Alpacca (or Alpaca).
We buy genuine "Sterling Silver" items from jewelry, decorative items, to tableware. With Sterling Silver being only partial Silver and the metal being
relatively low in price we suggest you have at least 6 ounces of it to be worth time and costs involved.
